Materials
The purity of the
materials used is a matter of great importance in producing
endoprostheses. This is why we produce our CoCrMo ENDOCAST®
and ENDOCAST® SL alloys in our own foundry. This is the
only way to prevent alloys from becoming contaminated by other
undesirable elements during the manufacturing process. Only CoCrMo
alloys are produced in our melting furnaces, eliminating right from
the start the possibility of contamination by other materials.
ENDOCAST® SL
ENDOCAST® SL is the protected name of our wrought CoCrMo alloy. ENDOCAST® SL fulfils the requirements of the standards ISO 5832-12 and ASTM F 1537. ENDOCAST® SL has a nickel value which is far below the tolerances permitted by these standards, this being a matter of concern from the medical point of view.
After melting, ENDOCAST® SL is submitted to a computer-guided electro slag remelting process to further improve the degree of purity. Forging and rolling are finally used to produce the desired semi-finished product dimensions. In order to optimise the material characteristics for their use as implants, the final step consists of a special heat treatment.
ENDOCAST®
ENDOCAST® is the protected
tradename of our cast alloy manufactured using the investment casting process.
This alloy fulfils in every way the requirements of the standards ISO 5832-4 and ASTM F 75,
and, moreover, possesses two special properties that are important for endoprostheses:
- Since the alloy is manufactured exclusively from high-purity source
materials and our own recycled material which has been analysed, the nickel content,
which is a matter of concern from a medical
point of view, is significantly lower than permitted by the standards.
- The mechanical properties, yield strength, tensile strength and elongation at fracture are significantly higher than those required by the standards. As a result, the fatigue strength of the implants manufactured from this material is also greatly improved.
ENDITAN®
ENDITAN® is our protected trademark for titanium and titanium alloys. We purchase ENDITAN® from qualified and registered suppliers, while strictly ensuring that the critical elements, namely oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen, do not exceed the specified limits.
The various ENDITAN® qualities naturally all comply with the requirements of standards ISO 5832-2, ISO 5832-3, ASTM F 67 and ASTM F 136.
BIOCAST
BIOCAST is our CoCrMo dental material. These alloys of course correspond to the standards for non-precious dental casting alloys (ISO 6871-1). The BIOCAST LA alloy is distinguished by its particular suitability for laser-welding technology. BIOCAST BL is also suitable for crown and bridge work. All BIOCAST dental alloys can be used in combination with our ENDOCAST SL laser welding wire, available in dimensions of 0.25 mm, 0.35 mm and 0.5 mm.
